Yes, Rhythm Wellness is in-network with Aetna, Cigna, Oscar (Optum), Carelon Behavioral Health, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (formerly Empire), Oxford (Optum), United Healthcare (Optum), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Independence Blue Cross Pennsylvania, Providence Health Plan and we also work with out-of-network benefits for all other plans. If we're in-network with your plan, you'll pay only your copay or coinsurance at each session.
If we're out-of-network, we provide a monthly superbill (an itemized receipt) that you submit to your insurance for partial reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse 50 to 80 percent of the session fee after your deductible. We recommend calling the member services number on your insurance card and asking about your "out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits" before your first session.

Rhythm Wellness is a fully virtual practice. We provide online therapy to clients anywhere in New York State, with most of our clients based in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Long Island City.
All sessions are held over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You'll need a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a phone, tablet, or computer. Research consistently shows telehealth therapy is as effective as in-person care for concerns like anxiety, burnout, and life transitions, and virtual sessions remove the commute (a real factor for busy New Yorkers).

Your first session is a structured conversation to understand what's bringing you in and where you want to go. Here's what it typically includes:
A review of your intake paperwork, completed online before we meet
Your story, in your words: what's happening now, what you've tried, and what's felt stuck
Initial goal setting: what "better" would actually look like for you
Your questions: about our approach, logistics, or anything else on your mind
There's no pressure to share everything at once. Therapy is collaborative, and the first session moves at your pace.

Yes, with a few legally required exceptions that your therapist will explain in detail during your first session. Everything you share in therapy is protected under HIPAA and New York State confidentiality law, and Rhythm Wellness uses a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform for all sessions.
The narrow exceptions where a therapist is legally required to break confidentiality include:
Risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else
Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or dependent adult
A court order compelling disclosure of records
Outside of these specific situations, what you share stays between you and your therapist. We'll walk through these limits clearly during your first session so there are no surprises.
